Every year, I expect a little rain around my birthday.
It’s almost become a tradition at this point. A passing shower, cloudy skies, and then the sun eventually peeks back out.
But this year?
June decided to do things a little differently.
Instead of a rainy birthday, it felt like the entire month was wrapped in gray skies and afternoon storms. There were days I found myself watching the rain from the window, wondering if we’d ever get a break.
If I’m being honest, it would’ve been easy to let the weather set the tone for the month.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Joy doesn’t have to wait for sunshine.
Finding Beauty in an Unexpected Month
When I look back at my camera roll, I don’t just see rainy days.
I see family.
I see laughter.
I see little moments that probably wouldn’t mean much to anyone else but mean everything to me.
There were quiet mornings working from home.
Weekend adventures.
Time spent celebrating another year of life.
Watching my boys grow a little more each day. L
Date nights with my husband.
Ordinary moments that, somehow, became the best parts of June.
Life rarely looks exactly the way we plan it.
Sometimes the weather changes our plans.
Sometimes life does too.
But that doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty waiting to be found.
What June Taught Me
This month reminded me that happiness isn’t about perfect circumstances.
It’s about choosing gratitude anyway.
Choosing to celebrate anyway.
Choosing to laugh anyway.
Choosing to make memories—even if they happen under cloudy skies.
Looking back, June wasn’t defined by the rain.
It was defined by the people I shared it with.
Here’s to July
As I step into a new month, I’m carrying more than just another photo dump.
I’m carrying lessons.
Gratitude.
Hope.
And the reminder that even when life feels a little cloudy, there’s still so much worth celebrating.
Here’s to sunny days ahead…
But even if they don’t come as quickly as I’d like, I know now that joy can bloom in every season.
Thank you, June.
You were beautiful in ways I didn’t expect.
With love,
Ja’Quel
