Happy December and hello, Vlogmas! It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year, and I couldn’t be more excited to share the first day of our holiday fun. Today was all about creating cozy, magical moments with the kids to kick off the holiday season. From painting ornaments to a festive movie night, it was a day full of joy and holiday cheer! Here’s how it all went down.
🎨 Crafting Holiday Memories
We started the day by painting ornaments together. The kids loved getting creative with their designs, and it was so special to see their personalities shine through their artwork. Painting ornaments is one of our favorite traditions because we can look back at their creations for years to come.
Tip: Lay down some newspaper or a craft mat to keep cleanup easy!
🍕 DIY Pizza Night
Next up: dinner! We had a blast making our own pizzas. Everyone picked their favorite toppings, and it was a fun way to let the kids take charge of their meals. Not to mention, it made dinner feel like an activity in itself!
🍿 Sweet & Savory Kettle Corn
While the pizzas baked, we whipped up a batch of homemade kettle corn. This sweet and salty treat is super simple and a crowd-pleaser every time.
Homemade Kettle Corn Recipe:
- Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add a few popcorn kernels to test the heat; when they pop, the oil is ready.
- Pour in the remaining kernels and sugar. Quickly stir to coat evenly.
- Cover the pot with a lid and shake it gently while the kernels pop. (This prevents burning.)
- Once the popping slows, remove the pot from heat, sprinkle with salt, and shake again.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
☕ Holiday Hot Cocoa
What’s a holiday evening without some rich, creamy hot cocoa? Here’s our go-to recipe:
Homemade Hot Cocoa Recipe:
- Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Whipped cream, marshmallows, or sprinkles for topping
- Instructions:
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm.
- Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until fully dissolved.
- Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour into mugs and add your favorite toppings.
✨ Letters to Santa
After our festive treats, we gathered around to write letters to Santa. The kids were thrilled to receive their personalized letter from Santa in the mail (such a magical touch!), and they eagerly wrote back with their wish lists.

🎥 Movie Night Finale
We ended the night by watching The Grinch. Snuggling on the couch with blankets, kettle corn, and hot cocoa was the perfect way to wrap up our holiday kickoff.
